Professor (Mrs.) Cynthia Amaning Danquah, Professor of Pharmacology and Head of the Department of Pharmacology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has been named a finalist in the Science and Sustainability category of the Study UK Alumni Awards Ghana 2026.
The prestigious awards celebrate outstanding UK alumni who are making significant contributions in their respective fields and driving positive change in their home countries.
Prof. Amaning Danquah, who earned her PhD in Drug Discovery from University College London (UCL) with support from a GETFund scholarship, is also the Principal Investigator for KNUST’s Centre for Anti-infective Drug Discovery. Her recognition highlights her impactful work in advancing health research and sustainability in Ghana and beyond.

Her research focuses on tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance, and natural product pharmacology, critical areas in global health. Over the years, she has established research laboratories, secured international grants, mentored postgraduate researchers, and strengthened scientific collaborations across borders.
Her UK training, she has noted in various academic engagements, strengthened her critical thinking, scientific rigour, and access to global research networks—foundations that have shaped her contributions to pharmaceutical sciences in Ghana.
Since returning to Ghana, Prof. Amaning Danquah has played a pivotal role in building research capacity at KNUST. She has become the first female Head of the Department of Pharmacology and continues to champion STEM mentorship, particularly encouraging women and young scientists to pursue careers in health research and drug discovery.
Her work aligns with KNUST’s strategic vision of driving excellence in research and innovation while contributing meaningfully to national and global development goals, especially in health sustainability.
