The President of Seychelles, His Excellency Wavel Ramkalawan, accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Linda Ramkalawan, and a high-level delegation from Seychelles, paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson. The meeting, held on 25th November 2024, at the Council Chamber of KNUST, aimed at exploring potential collaborations between the University of Seychelles and KNUST.
In his remarks, His Excellency Wavel Ramkalawan, who also serves as the Chancellor of the University of Seychelles, expressed his admiration for the dedication and industriousness of the KNUST community. "I see serious and committed people working here," he stated, adding that it was an honour to visit KNUST. The President highlighted the aspirations of the University of Seychelles, which, as a relatively young institution, seeks to establish partnerships that can contribute to solving global challenges. He expressed keen interest in exploring student exchange programmes that would expose students of Seychelles to the expertise and innovative approaches of KNUST. "As a young University, we are ready to collaborate," he said, emphasising the importance of forming ties to strengthen both institutions.
Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, welcomed the delegation and assured them of KNUST's commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships. She noted that the visit was timely, as KNUST values collaborations that promote knowledge sharing and innovation. “KNUST believes in sharing, and we are happy to share what we have with the University of Seychelles and with a student population of over 80,000, we stand as a great institution recognised for quality education by the Times Higher Education and we are ready to collaborate with you,” Professor (Mrs.) Dickson said. She explained KNUST's college-based structure, consisting of six Colleges, the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) and the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), supported by a state-of-the-art e-Learning Centre that enhances online education. She affirmed KNUST’s commitment to proposed partnership and fostering it into a long-lasting collaboration to solve critical global problems through shared expertise and innovation.
Present at the meeting from KNUST were Professor David Asamoah, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Mr. Andrews Kwasi Boateng, Registrar; Professor Eric Appau Asante, Director of KNUST E-learning Centre (KEC); Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah, Dean of International Programmes Office (IPO); the University Relations Officer, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe; and the Senior Assistant Registrar, IPO, Mrs. Yvonne Baiden.
The President was also accompanied by officials from the Seychelles Consulate in Ghana, as well as members from the Manhyia Palace.
