The Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi has presented thirteen (13) brand new laptop computers to students affected by the recent fire outbreak at Father’s Hostel, a hostel located at the Ayeduase, through the Vice-Chancellor’s Support One Needy Student with One Laptop (SONSOL) Project. The presentation took place at the DoSA Board Room on 31st July 2024.
Professor Wilson A. Agyare, the Director of the Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA), offered comfort and assurance to the affected students. He emphasised the University's commitment to addressing their immediate physical and psychological needs. "We understand the trauma and challenges that come with such incidents. Our team is here to provide you with all the necessary support, and the psychological counselling you will need," Professor Agyare stated.
He revealed that the University, through its Food and Clothing Bank, provided the victims with clothing and food after Management provided them with an on-campus accommodation at the Student Representative Council (SRC) Hostel. According to Professor Agyare, the affected students have been given access to essential items including the provision of laptops to particularly those whose laptops got destroyed during the outbreak, enabling them to continue their projects and studies without any disruption.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of her peers, Miss Perpetual Ayim Sefa, a final-year BSc. Agriculture student and a victim of the incident, extended a heartfelt gratitude to the Management of the University and the staff of DoSA for the support. “Helping us with accommodation, laptops, food, and clothing will go a long way in our recovery from this traumatic situation," she added.
