As part of the Corporate Social responsibility week celebration of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) School of Business (KSB), the students have embarked on a, outreach programme dubbed “KSB Market Attack Outreach.
According to Frank Oppong Adomako, President of the KSB Students Association, they decided to interact with and educate market women at the Kumasi Central market and the Suame Market on what they have learnt in school as way of giving back to society through the outreach.
Mr. Oppong Adomako said as an educational institution, they decided to embark on the outreach to help the traders and to learn from them as they have several years of experience in business.
The outreach saw students paying courtesy call on market queens and management of the markets as well as interaction and education of the traders. The market women were taught customer relations and care, business strategies, good financial management, business finance, personal finance, branding, communication and time management.
Dr. Wilberforce Owusu Ansah, a Faculty member and expert in Small and Medium Enterprises, said universities have been accused over the years of sitting on their ivory towers and the time has come for academia to impart what they have on the people.
Dr. Owusu Ansah said as business students and faculty, the outreach is aimed at providing education and assistance to the traders, to give them innovative ideas and to help them with some business challenges but not to solve all their problems. This he believed would help both parties in the socio-economic development of the country.
