A group of female staff from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, known as ‘KNUST Women,’ has donated GHS 8,000 to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The group, established in 2024, comprises female staff in academia and administration, with a mission to make a positive impact and give back to society.

Mrs. Mercy Vanessa Darkwaa Appiah-Castel, Deputy Registrar at the College of Science, emphasized the group's commitment to supporting the less privileged.
She highlighted the group’s vision to expand its reach and engage more members in various charitable activities.
"I am a mother, and I understand the challenges sick children and their parents go through. As tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, we see this as an opportunity to show love to the less privileged and the sick children at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.
"We are just KNUST Women beginning to mobilize. We believe this is only the beginning, and we encourage others to join us in the various projects we plan to undertake,” she stated.

Dr. Elizabeth Archampongma Archampong, another member of the group and a Lecturer at the Department of Public Law, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative and recounted her personal motivation for joining the cause.
"I love the idea of women coming together to help others. When the suggestion came up to support the PICU, it touched my heart because my first child was a preemie who stayed in a similar unit for two months. I remember what I went through, and to think that someone else may be going through the same struggle without the necessary support pushed me to be part of this donation. We look forward to doing more," she shared.

Dr. John Adabie Appiah, Head of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, expressed his gratitude for the donation, adding that it would go a long way in supporting the unit's needs.
"This money can be used to purchase some drugs, particularly antibiotics, or even contribute toward acquiring essential equipment. We truly appreciate this gesture," he said.
Other members present at the donation included Dr. Vivian Paintsil, Fukuaa Nana Quarshie, and Ms. Linda Ampomaa Zonu.
