In line with the Vice Chancellor’s vision to ensure good health and wellness of staff, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Wellness Centre together with the University Health Services (UHS) has organized a Hepatitis screening exercise for members of staff in the University Community.
Dr. Kwame Adjei Akrasi, a Medical Officer at the UHS mentioned that the exercise is to screen staff of the University to know their Hepatitis status. He revealed that over the past three months, the UHS has noticed an increase in death tolls of staff which are caused by liver conditions. The UHS therefore deemed it necessary to undertake the screening exercise to educate and vaccinate staff against the virus.
He also commended the University Management for organizing such a programme for staff.
The University Relations Office in an interview with the Provost of the College of Humanities and Social Science (CoHSS), said that ‘the exercise is a good step in the right direction for staff to know their health status’. Professor Charles Ofosu Marfo said. He encouraged staff to use the opportunity to patronise the screening as we mark the Hepatitis month.
The exercise was spearheaded by Professor (Mrs.) Ibok Nsa Oduro, Department of Food Science and Technology, Dr. Nana Kwame Ofori Ayisi-Boateng, Department of Medicine, School of Medicine and Dentistry, Department Dr. (Mrs.) Mercy Badu, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry and Dr. (Mrs.) Phyllis Tawiah, Department of Medicine.
