The Vice-Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, on Wednesday, 19th August 2020, paid courtesy calls on some stakeholders of the University within the Ashanti Region. Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, together with some Management members, visited the offices of Honourable Simon Osei-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, Honourable Osei Assibey Antwi, Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, COP Kwasi Mensah Duku, Ashanti Regional Police Commander and the General Officer Commanding, Central Command, Brigadier General J. A. Aphour.
According to Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, the purpose of the visits was to formally express her gratitude to them for their tremendous support and significant roles they have played in the history of the University over the past years. She also, used the opportunity to solicit for their collective backing in the development of the University during her tenure of office.
In his remarks, Honourable Simon Osei-Mensah congratulated Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson for uplifting women in Ghana by becoming the Vice Chancellor of the best University in West Africa and Ghana. He said that Prof. (Mrs.) Dickson has become the second woman in the history of Ghana to have occupied such a position and encouraged her to carry on her exemplary attributes she portrayed during her tenure as Pro Vice-Chancellor to her new office. He added that his outfit will play its part in supporting KNUST in all endeavours.
Honourable Osei Assibey Antwi, the Metropolitan Chief executive of Kumasi on his part pledged his support to the University. He stated that the Assembly will pull major investors to the University in the area of accommodation and other investment projects. The Mayor, added that the Metropolis is believing in KNUST students to take up projects that would bring development within the Metropolis. He was hopeful that the relationship between KNUST and all the 17 Departments of KMA would be strengthened in order to make the Metropolis one of the best in Ghana. He further urged the University to assist the Metropolis in finding solutions to the problem of congestion in Kumasi.
COP Kwasi Mensah Duku and Brigadier General J. A. Aphour congratulated the Vice-Chancellor on her appointment and pledged their support to the University.
