KNUST has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Electronic Science and Technology (UESTC).
UESTC is a University in China which is committed to the advancement of society and civilization; and is one of the world's leading universities in the field of electronic information, both in research and in the cultivation of new talents. The University has trained many talents who are currently contributing their quota to China's economic development. Inspired by the academic spirit and pursuit of excellence, UESTC is determined to team up with other universities in the world in an endeavor to promote scientific and technological innovation and social progress.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. W. O. Ellis welcomed the six-man delegation from UESTC and informed them of KNUST's determination to continue producing Ghana's renowned engineers, since the university aims to provide holistic training for its students. He mentioned the importance of such international linkages, which aims to expand the knowledge of science and technology through research collaborations, and student and staff exchanges. He affirmed that such alliances facilitate fruitful outcomes and the parties involved benefit greatly.
The President of UESTC, Prof. Wang Jinsong, expressed gratitude to the University for the warm reception given him and his team. He traced the history of China's friendly relations with Ghana to the good association with Ghana's first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and therefore asserted that there was already a natural link between China and Ghana.
Prof. Jinsong mentioned that both universities could collaborate in various fields of study in science and technology where the students involved would receive support from the central government of China. He noted the University sought to expand in higher education especially in science and technology and was looking forward to having joint research opportunities with other universities in the world. He also said the University takes pride in the fact that most of the leaders in the Electronic Engineering field in China graduated from UESTC and said students from KNUST could pursue short term programmes with their University.
Miss Wang Houjun, a representative from UESTC's international office, gave a brief presentation of the University in terms of location; capacity, basic structure of their schools in Engineering, Mathematical Science, International Educational, School of Politics and Public Administration, School of Foreign languages and Research Institutes.
The Vice-Chancellor applauded UESTC for their pursuit of excellence in advanced education and welcomed their intentions for collaborations.
The MOU was duly signed after which the documents were exchanged.
Present at the meeting from KNUST were Professors and Heads in the College of Engineering.
Also present from UESTC were Prof. Deng Oricong, Prof. Muttaoguan, Prof. Nao Chinwei, Prof. Di Aiying and a collaborator; Mr. Koli Incoom Enchill.
