The International Programmes Office (IPO) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has hosted the 2025 edition of its annual Christmas celebration, dubbed “Oseikrom Bronya,” bringing together members of the University’s international community to mark the festive season and promote cultural diversity.
Speaking at the event, the Dean of the International Programmes Office, Professor Edmund Ekuadzi, thanked participants for attending and explained the significance of the celebration.
“At a time like this when we are in the holiday season, celebrating Christmas and what it stands for, which is giving, it is important that we are able to share as a community of students and staff and also friends of the IPO,” he said.
He noted that the event provided an important platform for interaction, particularly for international students who remain on campus during the Christmas period.
“Those who are very far away from home still have to be here in Kumasi, and this gives us the opportunity to meet and interact as a community,” he added.
Participants described the celebration as lively and welcoming. Noe Fondop, a student from Cameroon, said the event made him feel at home.
“It was a nice and jovial place to be. I’m a Cameroonian by nationality, and I felt at home. The people, the games, and everything were conducive. I liked the food and the display. Overall, I will say it was a successful event, and I’m happy to have been part of it and to have had somewhere to belong while being in Ghana for this Christmas season,” he said.
Another participant, Joana, from China, described the event as a memorable experience.
“I am very pleased to have attended this year’s party. It was a marvellous experience. The food was very yummy, and the best food I ate today was Egusi soup from Nigeria. Because I was in Nigeria two years ago, such food reminds me of my life there. This was a very nice experience,” she said.
A freshman international student, Adeliane Umukundwa from Rwanda, said the event helped her feel more welcomed on campus.
“I am a freshman, and I am happy to have attended this international Christmas celebration here on campus. It made me feel welcome. I enjoyed the food, it was the best, and I had the opportunity to interact with new people. I am happy to be here and hopefully, I will be here again next time,” she said.
In her closing remarks, the Vice-Dean of the International Programmes Office, Professor (Mrs.) Augustina Sylverken, expressed appreciation for the strong turnout and optimism for future editions.
“We were expecting a number of international students to join us for this year’s Oseikrom Bronya, and thankfully many of them showed up. There was a lot of food and drinks, we enjoyed ourselves, and we look forward to a lot of exciting things in 2026,” she said.
