Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has organised the 2017/2018 Academic year Excellence Awards to honour outstanding staff and students in the University. The dinner which was held at the Great Hall brought together members of management, sponsors, staff and students.
In his welcome address, Professor Charles Ansah, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, indicated that, the focus of the dinner and awards is to motivate and stimulate the staff of the university to work harder. He hoped the dinner would also strengthen and prepare them towards the next academic year.
Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, the Vice-Chancellor, speaking at the dinner said that the idea of organising the dinner was to bring together senior members, senior staff, junior staff including students. He stated that moving forward as a university, they would expand the scope of the awards so that more outstanding people in the university would be appreciated. He expressed his gratitude to the sponsors for supporting the event.
The categories of the awards were the Best Senior Member (Research and Scholarship) which was won by Dr. Stephen Sarfo, who was awarded a plaque, fully paid one-week trip to Dubai, a laptop and a certificate; Best Senior Member, (Service and Innovation) taken by Dr. (Mrs.) Victoria Bam, while Mr. Charles Nsiah of the Finance Office took home the Best Senior Member Administrative (Registrar’s Offices). Other winners in the Senior Member category included Best Senior Member (Teaching) Dr. Russel Owusu Afrifa and Best Senior Member Administrative, (Specialised Units), Mrs. Harriet Eshun.
The College of Science won the best College in Environmental Ranking while the Department of Mathematics came out as the Best Department. Others are Best Hall in Environmental Ranking (Unity Hall); Best Research Center (Bureau of Integrated Rural Development, BIRD); Best Senior Staff Award (Mr. Benjamin Payne); Best Junior Staff Award (Mrs. Kathleen Anyemedu); Best Teacher, Basic Schools (Mr. Francis Martin Baffoe) and Best Nurse (Isaac Nkrumah).
This year’s overall best student went to Mr. Blessed Charles Amankwah Amoah, a Petroleum Engineering Student. The Best Female Student was won by Ms. Constance Akosiwaah Efio-Akolly.
