The Global Alumni Association of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, elected new executives at its 13th Biennial Congress, held from October 24 to 27, 2024, at Baca Hotel and Event Centre in Koforidua.
The newly elected executives are Dr. Herman Yobo Addae, President; Professor Emmanuel Bamfo-Agyei, Vice President; Mrs. Jemima Owusu-Baah, General Secretary; Professor Sophia Panarkie Pardie Ocran, Assistant General Secretary; Mr. Samuel Danjuma M. Atimodu, Treasurer; and Dr Gloria Ankar-Brewoo, Mr. Anthony Sekyere, and Mr. Isaac Aboagye Duah Tek., all Global Executive Members.

In his remarks at the Congress, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, expressed pride in hosting the congress in Koforidua, a land known for a progressive rich culture. He praised the University for its commitment to excellence in research and preserving Ghana’s cultural heritage. “KNUST is more than a place of learning; it’s a beacon of professionalism that drives transformation across every sector of our nation,” he emphasised. He called on the participants to seize the opportunity to harness positive change for the nation and highlight the need for today’s youth to be empowered by aligning such goals with the University's values. He hoped the congress would serve as a testament for future reflection and looked forward to supporting its outcomes.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor David Asamoah, speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, registered the University’s appreciation to the alumni association for their contributions to the development of the University. He also outlined the contributions the University has made towards the development of the KNUST’s relationship with its alumni and the association, which include revamping the alumni office, establishing the TekConnect platform to facilitate the registration of all alumni for better database management and information flow, implementing an online transcript system, and creating a Wall of Fame at all Faculties and Colleges in KNUST. He called on all to continue to give back to KNUST through funding and mentoring of students- "adopt them, give them hope, offer them scholarships, and provide them with internship opportunities."

The immediate past Global President, Dr. Kwaku Agbesi, stressed the importance of equipping the youth with the needed skills to change the world. He acknowledged that many young people face uncertainties and unrealistic expectations. As KNUST is the bedrock of education, he believed the alumni must take the lead in providing guidance, apprenticeships, and access to resources and funding. He encouraged mutual support among alumni to achieve success and give back to society. ‘Together, I believe we can accomplish notable milestones, increase engagement, and foster meaningful relationships, scholarships, and mentorship programmes,’ he added.
Honourable Kwame Asante Antwi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly reiterated the numerous opportunities and challenges the youth face. According to him, the youth must be creative and innovative in a rapidly evolving landscape to thrive.
The newly elected Global President, Dr. Herman Yobo Addae, accepted the charge and promised to work hand in hand with all executives while continuing to solicit support from alumni for the growth of the University and, ultimately, to benefit the world at large.
The Congress also featured a mentorship session for graduates, which focused on improving their curriculum vitae construction and job application skills. Alumni from various professional fields, including civil service, international relations, health sciences, cybersecurity, data analysis, teaching, and agriculture, led the mentorship session.
