The Association of Ghana Industry (AGI) in collaboration with KNUST has held an industrial technology (Indu-Tech) fair at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi. The one week trade and technology fair attracted a cross-section of Small, Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and other industries to mount their products to enlighten the general public.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor W.O. Ellis, in his keynote address, stated that KNUST was poised to move Science and Technology to an appreciable standard. It is against this background that, the University instituted the Centre for Business Development to facilitate business activities including mentoring and entrepreneurship on Campus, he noted.
Professor Ellis further indicated that KNUST has over the years contributed immensely towards the development of the nation. He identified product packing as a challenge in the nation, and commended the Department of Communication Design of KNUST for their tremendous efforts in transforming the packaging industry in Ghana.
He was hopeful that the partnership between AGI and KNUST would go a long way to explore other avenues, particularly in creating an enabling environment for the University to project its innovations.
The Chairman of the Planning Committee of Indu-Tech and an Executive of AGI, Mr. Robert A. Kwakye Nketia, in a statement expressed gratitude on behalf of the Association to KNUST for participating in the fair. He further commended staff and students of the University for bringing to bear their innovative products.
Products including assorted package designs, industrial equipment, electronic devices, and many more were mounted from the following departments; Communication Design, Industrial Art, Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, and the Technology Consultancy Centre.
