The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in collaboration with GHACEM has launched the GHACEM Mobile Cement Academy and E-Payment Platform designed by researchers and alumni of KNUST. The launch was held at the KNUST Business School Auditorium.
The forty-footer GHACEM Mobile Cement container houses offices, washroom, sewer receptacle, overhead water tank and storage spaces for materials such as cement, sand, coarse aggregate etc. The design and construction were led by researchers from the Department of Architecture in collaboration with Departments of Construction Technology and Management, Communication Design, Civil and Mechanical Engineering.
The Chairman for the launch, Nana Ehunabobrim Prah Agenais VI, was happy to witness the collaboration between academia and industry, which is an essential impetus for national growth and development.
Nana Chair pointed out that GHACEM’s objective is to put customers at the centre of its entire operations hence placing a premium on its products and services. According to him, ‘GHACEM has consistently produced quality cement for most construction projects and edifices in Ghana’. He promised on behalf of GHANCEM to continue to ensure that customers have an easy way of doing business as well as assist with the transfer of knowledge.
The Provost of the College of Art and Built Environment, Professor John Tia Bugri revealed that the ’KNUST-GHACEM’ collaboration officially began in 2019 to offer training to people in the country. On the training, he indicated that the team developed an Artisanal and Students Training Manual on the proper use of cement and offered a three-day Training of Trainers of graduate students and teaching assistants from Architecture, Construction Technology and Management and Civil Engineering Departments. These trainees would spearhead a nationwide best practice for cement usage, he added.
He indicated that the University focuses on the impact of research, thus, delivers results-oriented research and would continue to collaborate with trans-disciplinary teams across the University in partnership with industry.
The Chief Commercial Officer of GHACEM, Mr. Ebenezer Somuah delivering the Management address noted that every thriving economy needs local industries to create more jobs and drive economic growth. He asserted that GHACEM, as the leading cement manufacturer in Ghana, seeks continuous improvement in delivering excellence to its customers and partners.
