The KNUST Basic School has strengthened its international engagement through an educational exchange programme in Canada involving its head, Rev. (Mrs.) Irene Owusua Nkansah six students from the Junior High School, and one student from Hill Top School.
The programme, organised by Family Dream Consult Ltd in collaboration with parents, provided participants with the opportunity to experience different levels of the Canadian education system while building cross-cultural connections.
During the visit, the students engaged with public and private schools, as well as a senior high school, where they joined classroom activities alongside their Canadian counterparts. They participated in lessons across subjects including Mathematics, History, Physical Education and French, and took part in practical sessions in Robotics, Science and Art.

As part of the exchange, the students delivered presentations introducing Ghana to their host schools, sharing aspects of the country’s culture and education system while gaining exposure to new teaching approaches and learning environments.
The team visited the CN Tower, the tallest structure in Canada. They also toured Ripley’s Aquarium, the University of Toronto and the Queen’s residence.
The delegation also visited leading institutions such as the University of Toronto and McGill University, further deepening their appreciation of global academic systems.
During the visit, the team met Jude Opoku Agyemang, an alumnus of the University Primary School, who welcomed them and presented gifts in support of their educational journey.

A closing ceremony was held to mark the end of the programme, with participants receiving certificates. The KNUST delegation also presented souvenirs from the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, the International Programmes Office (IPO) and the Basic School to their hosts, including the Lester B. Pearson School Board in Quebec.
