The Department of Food Science and Technology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has received accreditation from the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) for ISO/IEC 17025:2017 in the field of food testing.
This historic achievement marks the first time a university in Ghana has received this prestigious accreditation, highlighting KNUST’s commitment to excellence in scientific research and application.
The accreditation certifies the laboratory’s capacity to conduct high-precision tests.

This achievement sets a benchmark for quality and reliability in food testing services offered by academic institutions.
Speaking on the ground breaking achievement, the Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology, Professor (Mrs.) Faustina Dufie Wireko-Manu revealed that the accomplishment was made possible with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), which fully covered the costs associated with the accreditation process.

"The Department deeply appreciates management of the university, especially the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson and Provost, Prof. Leonard Amekudzi for making available resources to prepare the lab for the accreditation," she said.
On behalf of the university and vice-chancellor the provost, Prof. Leonard Amekudzi thanked UNIDO for their funding support. He said that the newly-accredited laboratory is now open to clients, offering services that meet international standards.
