The cohort 3 scholars of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Foundation at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi have donated food and assorted items worth about Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (5,000) to the KNUST Food Bank. The donation was held in a short ceremony at the forecourt of the J. Harper Building on Friday, 24th February 2023.
The items donated included cartons of tomato paste, mackerel, oil, bags of rice, sugar, and a box of Sanitary pads. Professor Marian Asantewaa Nkansah, Deputy Director in charge of Housing & Welfare received the items on behalf of the Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA).
According to the President of the Cohort, Nana Addo Amponsem, the donation formed part of their final-year activities to give-back their quota to other needy students in KNUST. He expressed gratitude to the Liaison Officer of GNPC-KNUST, Madam Shirley, and the GNPC Foundation for their generosity and support in ensuring that the Cohort was able to deliver on their commitment to give-back to others. He hoped that other cohorts would embrace the initiative to support other needy students in KNUST and society at large.
The Senior Assistant Registrar at the DoSA, Mrs. Theodora Oduro, on behalf of the University expressed her gratitude for the thoughtful gesture which she deemed a timely intervention. She noted that the KNUST Food Bank was established to eradicate extreme hunger and ensure access to food for every needy student on Campus.
Mrs. Oduro seized the opportunity to solicit for more support from associations, alumni groups, organisations, and philanthropists towards assisting the Food Bank.
