A delegation from the Ghana Air Force (GAF) has donated some items to the Aerospace Engineering programme in the department of Mechanical Engineering, KNUST. The donation was made in fulfilment of the activities marking its 50th Anniversary celebration. The items included 3 Desktop computers, 3 UPS and a helicopter.
The Air Force delegation led by Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Sampson M. Oje said that the donation was made to properly equip the students to develop their God-given skills and talents for the profession they have chosen.
He expressed his gratitude to the College for providing graduates needed for the aviation industry and assured the University that his office would collaborate closely to train more pilots and engineers for the nation and the world at large. In addition, he affirmed the readiness of his outfit to scale up the recruitment of KNUST’s Alumni to about 90%.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. K. K. Adarkwa was grateful to the team for coming to the assistance of the programme, and assured that KNUST would continue to provide the best products needed for their service. He challenged the visitors to always collaborate with the University so they can channel their needs to the school for them to consider when developing its curriculum. He also admonished them to also consider the recruitment of products from other faculties.
The Aerospace programme chair at KNUST, Mr. Kwasi Bofa known as Nana Yaw Agyei II, Omanhene of Mim Traditional Area in Brong Ahafo Region also expressed the department’s indebtedness to the officials. However, he elaborated on the challenges the department has been facing since the inception of the programme.
He said “there are a lot of teaching constraints in terms of running the programme due to its immaturity and then called on other benevolent groups across the country to come to their aid.
