The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology through the able leadership of Prof. K. K. Adarkwa is not only recognised as a premier University of Science and Technology but also, as a well-endowed institution in the Humanities.
As a result of acknowledging the University’s effort in running Proficiency course in French, the French Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency, Mr. Francois Hurtut has visited the University. Mr. Francois Hurtut described the visit as very motivating, interesting and encouraging and the first of its kind as far as his visit to a higher institute of learning is concerned. He said that, his visit was to strengthen the formal co-operation between the University and the French Embassy. He thanked the Vice Chancellor for the wonderful initiatives he has made to encourage the use of the French language in the University community.
Prof. Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa welcomed him and acknowledged the French Embassy for their support towards the development of the University. He also commended the French Ambassador for using KNUST as the first point of visit to the universities. He said as the University which trains and nurtures students for the international market, there is the need for the school to develop a French Proficiency programme to make them fluent in the language. He therefore proposed that, the French embassy makes itself well visible on Campus to enhance the programme. “If we learn French, we can become great Scientists, Architects, Engineers, Doctors, Designers, among others that we want to be”, he declared.
As part of the visit, the ambassador also visited the College of Science where he exchanged pleasantries with the Provost, Prof. Aboagye Menyeh. The Provost then led him to visit the French Resource Centre located in the college.
The next point of call was the department of Modern Languages in the College of Art and Social Sciences. He was informed that the number of students currently pursuing the course as an elective is over 1700. He was highly impressed about the number and promised to continue the requisite support within his power to the programme.
