A two member delegation from the French embassy in Ghana has visited KNUST to enlighten students and staff about the opportunities to be derived from studying in France. Prior to the presentation, they paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. W. O. Ellis.
In meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, Mr Arnaud Dornon, Head of Cooperation and Cultural Affairs of the French embassy said that France is now one of the renowned destinations for people who would love to advance on the educational ladder. He noted that higher education in France could strengthen the educational capacity of KNUST students and staff in Masters and PhD programmes. He proposed that students who want to study in France would receive scholarships and due support from the French government during their period of study and pledged the continual support of the embassy for the French Department in KNUST. He also proposed French workshops to be held later in the University.
The Vice-Chancellor welcomed their initiative to hold workshops in the University and explained to them the channels and the processes in organising the workshops. He applauded them for continuously devising avenues to improve education and spoke on the success of students who have benefitted from their scholarships.
At the presentation on "Higher Education in France" held in one of the College of Science auditoriums', Mr Dornon revealed that, France is the first destination for African students seeking to advance in their education. He emphasised on the affordability of education where the student is also sponsored by the government throughout his or her studies. He mentioned the many fields of study one could pursue which included Agriculture and Food Science, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, among others.
He stressed on the importance of scientific research in France which has powered many technological breakthroughs. Mr Arnaud Dornon stressed that programmes have been developed to offer opportunities for Ghanaians studying in France where they receive the same benefits as the French nationals. Later, the delegation accompanied by the Head of International Programmes Office (IPO) Prof. Obiri Danso, and the Acting Deputy Registrar University Relations Mr. Kingsley O. Tabi, visited a soon to be completed French Language Centre at the new Exams Building. Mr. Dornon pledged the continual support of his government to the centre and promised to provide most of the centre's equipment.
