The Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has conducted its annual hostel inspection exercise at the Obuasi Campus to assess accommodation facilities and ensure they meet standards required for student occupancy.
The exercise forms part of the University's efforts to promote student welfare by ensuring that hostels provide safe, secure and conducive living environments that support academic work and personal development.
The inspection team, comprising officials from the Directorate of Student Affairs and other University representatives, toured selected hostel facilities within the Obuasi Municipality. Members of the delegation were received by the Coordinating Dean of the Obuasi Campus, Professor Lawrence Darkwah, who briefed them on the purpose and significance of the exercise before inspections commenced.
The team assessed the facilities based on criteria including safety measures, sanitation, security arrangements, structural integrity, lighting, ventilation and general living conditions.

Speaking during the exercise, Professor Darkwah underscored the importance of maintaining quality accommodation standards to enhance students' academic experiences and overall well-being.
He noted that suitable hostel facilities play a critical role in creating an environment that promotes learning, comfort and personal growth.
The inspection also provided an opportunity for University officials to engage hostel operators on measures required to improve service delivery and ensure compliance with established standards.
According to the Directorate of Student Affairs, the exercise is intended to identify areas requiring improvement while guiding the approval and recommendation of suitable hostels for student occupancy in the upcoming academic year.
