A delegation from the Dalian Medical University has visited KNUST in their quest to collaborate with the University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor William Otto- Ellis addressing the guests, gave an insight into the University's structure and operations. He said KNUST though Science and Technology oriented, also has a strong stance in the humanities.
He quickened to appreciate the fact that most doctors currently at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital are products of KNUST. Rather Professor Ellis commented that, in order to lessen the influx of students at KATH, there is the need to have a teaching hospital situated at KNUST campus to compliment KATH.
He brought forth his proposals to be considered by both Universities as regard areas where the universities could partner, such as capacity building of staffs. He ventured also into the possibility of running exchange programs between the two Universities.
The leader of the delegation, Huang Min who is also a Professor of Microbiology however expressed profound enthusiasm for their visit to KNUST and hoped for further cooperation.
Dalian University established in 1947, is currently proud of a student population of about ten thousand. It had seventy Masters' programmes running as at 2008. According to the Professor, the University is also famous in international education for seventy two international countries where he added that, fifty of their students are Ghanaians studying Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, Clinical Medicine (MBBS).
He said their university hoped to improve the medical field after their interactions with KNUST as well as building a strong cordial relation. Incidentally, Professor Peter Donkor the Pro- Vice Chancellor is a product from their university. He said there is also a student from KNUST on scholarship pursuing a PhD Anatomy programme in Dalian university. The other five members of the delegates were Meng Xianhi, Kitty (Project Manager and the Interpreter), Hang Jihong, Xu Yinghui (Executive President) and Tang Li (Director of Teaching Affairs).
Professor William Otto- Ellis finally expressed his appreciation for their visit and pledged to build upon the relationship.
Also in attendance were the Registrar, Mr. Kobby Yebo- Okrah, Director of works, Rev. Ben Oppong and the Dean of IPO, Professor Obiri Danso.
