The College of Science would commence the PhDMCh (Doctoral) degree in Vision Science in the next academic year as a full-time programme in addition to others already running at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Professor Ibok Oduro, Provost of the College of Science, announced this in her address during the 52nd Congregation Ceremony of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST).
She added that, the CoS in collaboration with e-Crime Bureau introduced the First Digital Forensic short course to train 760 students, which increased to 6174, which is about 6.71% increment compared to 2017/2018 academic year. Whereas graduate students increased from 258 to 323 which is about 20.2%.
Professor (Mrs.) Oduro also said the College Research Fund which was set up with the sitting allowances of Faculty have funded the education of 8 students of the College.
Professor Mrs. Oduro stated that this year, the CoS is presenting a total of 757 graduands, out of which 584 are males representing 77.15% and 173 females representing 22.85%. Out of this number 116 are graduating with First Class Honours representing 15.32%, 159 representing 56.4% obtained Second Class Upper degrees, 427 graduands, representing 29% had Second Class Lower degrees and 55 representing 7.27% are graduating with Pass.
In conclusion, she advised the graduands not to allow failures to be impediment to their success and to be disciplined and dedicated to duty in order to succeed.
Dr. (Mrs.) Paulina Akua Amponsah, Vice-President of the African Seismology Association, an alumna, shared her life experiences as the first female seismologist in Ghana. She advised the graduands that science has a lot of opportunities to offer them and the world and encouraged them to work hard and to use their knowledge as scientists to develop the country.
Mrs. Amponsah encouraged the graduands not to be disappointed if they are not helped by others but to press hard diligently for success.
