In furtherance to executing its responsibility of providing full range engineering manpower required for national development, and to position itself in a changing environment, the College of Engineering(CoE) is bringing on board 5 new postgraduate programmes. The Provost of the CoE, Professor Mark Adom Asamoah, made this known at the 52nd Congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Professor Adom Asamoah said MSc Transport Planning, MSc Disaster Prevention and Management, MSc Air Transport and Aviation Management, MSc Intellectual Property and MPhil Power Systems Engineering, would commence next academic year.
In addition to the postgraduate programmes, 3 new undergraduate programmes, namely BSc Automobile Engineering, BSc Industrial Engineering and BSc Marine would be introduced
He added that for the first time the College is also embarking on inter-Collegiate programmes with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Art and Built Environment.
The Provost revealed that in preparing students adequately for the job market, the College presented the first batch of students for the professional examinations of Huawei Authorisation Information and Network Academy programme. KNUST Students won 6 awards in the Examinations which included the Best University Enterprise Network, the Best Student in Enterprise Network and Excellent Tutor.
Professor Adom Asamoah used the occasion to appeal to corporate bodies and individuals to contribute to the CoE Needy Students Fund.
Teknokrat Ing. Daniel Owiredu, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Golden Star Resources, stated that having graduated from one of the best universities in the world, they have been equipped with everything that can make them succeed. He advised them to be prepared to learn in humility as they enter the corporate world as fresh engineers.
This year, the CoE presented a total of 806 fresh student engineers from 15 different programmes for graduation. Out of this number, a total of 108 students representing 13.38%, graduated with First Class. Another 423 constituting 52.48% graduated in Second Class Upper category, while 259 or 32.1% graduated in the Second Lower category. With 16 students representing 1.98% having a pass.
The College also graduated 79 postgraduates including 10 PhDs.
