The Provost of the College of Health Science(CoHS), Professor Yaw Adu Sarkodie, has appealed to government through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture(MoFA) to employ veterinary surgeons who are graduating from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST). Professor Adu Sarkodie made this passionate appeal to MoFA at the graduation ceremony for the College of Health Sciences at the 52nd Congregation Ceremony of the KNUST.
According to the Provost, KNUST’s veterinary surgeons would support food security in the country. “We are in the midst of Bird Flu in the region and KNUST says we give you these young men and women to support disease control efforts,” He added.
In his address Professor Adu Sarkodie announced that with the support of the Ghana Educational Trust Fund, the small Animal Teaching Hospital of the Veterinary School should be operational next month, as work on the large Animal Hospital progresses.
Professor Adu Sarkodie noted that there are many underserved areas in the country and encouraged the medical graduands to take vacancies in such places to serve the country to contribute to make positive changes to the health service.
In his motivational speech, Lieutenant Dr. David Abrokwa of the sixth Battalion, an alumnus, urged graduands to continue with the hard work that led them to successfully complete their education. Lieutenant Dr. Abrokwa called on the graduands to be humble as they enter the world of work. He cautioned them against pride saying,” pride precedes the fall of many, never think you know it all, or you have arrived”. He added that the graduands must remember that others have already walked the path they are on and encouraged them not to undermine anyone but to learn in humility.
Lieutenant Dr. Abrokwa advised them to always exhibit high sense of integrity, honesty, decency, moral uprightness, truthfulness and to always remember that “bigger is not always better”.
