The Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) in response to the ‘Support One Needy Student with One Laptop (SONSOL) Project,' has donated Fifty (50) brand new HP laptop computers to KNUST. The donation was made when a delegation from CBG paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson.
The Director of Retail and Business, Mr. Emmanuel Nikoi pledged the Bank’s commitment to donate 50 laptops annually for a period of four (4) years. He added that the Bank in deliberations with the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at KNUST has agreed to take up 10 Mastercard Foundation Scholars on various internship programs and offer them employment at any of their branches if they excel.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson expressed her appreciation to the kind donation of CBG to help brilliant but needy students pursue their dreams to the fullest. She mentioned that KNUST leverages on partnerships, stakeholder engagement in nurturing students to become future leaders.
Professor Dickson assured the delegation of KNUST’s commitment to ensure that genuine needy students would receive the computers. She informed the team that when the call for applications was opened, four thousand, three hundred and thirty-seven (4,375) students applied. These applicants went through a rigorous selection process and three thousand two hundred (3200) applicants qualified. She, thus, called for more support from various philanthropists to meet the needs of the students.
Meanwhile, the Management in collaboration with its partners will hold a special ceremony on Thursday, 25th February, 2021 to distribute an initial 593 laptops to needy students. There will be subsequent distribution to other qualified students as and when the University receives additional support.

On the side of CBG, Mr. Eric Kwarteng, Ashanti South Manager (CBG); Miss Bernice Asamoah, Ashanti North Manager; Mr. Edward Antwi, Digital Channels General Manager; Mr. George Godfred Addai, KNUST Brand Manager represented.
