The 6th Congress of the KNUST ALUMNI ASSOCIATION was launched on 19th March 2010 at the GSTS Assembly Hall in Takoradi, with an advice for Technocrats to take advantage of the many opportunities that the petrol chemical industry will provide. In his Key note address, Technocrat P.V.Obeng, who is also the chairman of the University Council, advised members to Venture into investing in the industry and not to remain as Technicians.
He said, Technocrats have the opportunity to even look at the environment effects and design solutions and by so doing open up other opportunities and make impact on the industry.
He advised technocrats not to look at western region alone as they look for their place in the Petrol-Gas industry but to look at other opportunity provided by industry elsewhere e.g. the salt industry and other industrialized ventures that the cheap source of power may provide.
In his closing remarks, Awurae Agyei Annor, paramount chief of west Enzima Traditional Area, advised Technocrats to be assertive in the fight for their place in the Petrol-Gas industry. He advised that if the oil companies are left to do their own thing, then we will all be disappointed when it comes to recruitment of personnel as they will make the requirement very difficult for us to meet.
The congress is tentatively scheduled for October 2010. As part of the program, the Assistant Registrar in charge of admission, Mr. E.T. Oteiku counseled students about their subject combinations. Schools in attendance included, GSTS, St. Mary’s Boys, Diabener SHS, Adiembra SHS, Bompeh Senior Technical School.
The theme for the occasion was Ghana’s Oil Find: The Relevance of Technocrats in its utilization for national Development.
