The Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, in collaboration with its partners, has presented a total of Five Hundred and Three (503) brand new laptops to brilliant but needy students on Wednesday, 3rd July, 2024 at the Great Hall of the University. The presentation was in line with the Vice-Chancellor's vision to ‘Support One Needy Student with One Laptop,’ dubbed the 'SONSOL' Project.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson in her speech, reaffirmed the University's commitment to providing inclusive education, ensuring no student is left behind. She disclosed that since the inception of the SONSOL Project in 2021, cumulatively, applications from almost ten thousand (10,000) students have been received and a total of 2,302 laptops have been distributed with a monetary value of Twenty-Three Million Ghana Cedis (GHȻ 23,000,000). ‘The statistics shared clearly indicate that there is indeed a pressing need to support a lot more of our students to succeed,’ she said.

The Vice-Chancellor also appealed to other cooperate organisations and individuals to support the SONSOL Project by donating many more laptops to be a part of KNUST’s journey of promoting inclusive education by supporting our brilliant but needy students. ‘We still have a deficit of over seven thousand (7,000) applicants yet to be supported over the past years this initiative started,’ she stated.
Solidarity messages were received from some of the donors who promised to increase their support in the subsequent donations.
