The International Healthcare Volunteers from USA have donated a Mammography machine for breast cancer screening to the KNUST Hospital. This is part of their yearly voluntary service which was initiated in 2007 and which has been of utmost importance and benefit to the hospital.
The group comprises doctors, nurses and medical students who come to Ghana voluntarily to offer free healthcare, training and exchange of ideas for two weeks.
The International Healthcare Volunteers always come fully equipped with medical and surgical equipment and supplies which they always donate to the hospital after their two-week stay.
Dr. James Aikins, the leader of the group observed that this year’s visit was to continue with the Minimal Invasive Surgery which was started last year.
The Minimal Invasive Surgery is a form of surgery that involves making a small incision in the patient's body and inserting instruments or other medical devices to perform the medical surgery.
Dr. Yaw Bio, the Director of KNUST Health Services acknowledged the group for their immense contribution to the KNUST hospital and expressed his appreciation for their continuous support.
Dr. James Aikins was accompanied by Dr. Emily Bellavance, Dr. Kathryn Suarez, Dr. Kathleen Hampton, Dr. Deborah Davis, Dr. Annette Wagner and Jasmine Ally, a fourth year medical student.
