The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has secured its first gold medal at the ongoing 9th Mini Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games after winning the 4x400m mixed relay event.
The victory came during the opening athletics session of the competition being hosted by the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), from May 5 to 15, 2026.
KNUST athletes delivered a strong performance in the relay final, giving the university an early breakthrough in the athletics competition and boosting morale within the contingent.
The 4x400m mixed relay was the opening event of the athletics programme held on Wednesday, May 6.
This year’s Mini GUSA Games, themed “Integrating University Sports with Academic Professionalism,” has brought together universities across Ghana to compete in athletics, football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, badminton and table tennis.
KNUST is participating in several disciplines, including football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, tennis and table tennis.
