The State Insurance Company (SIC) has donated Fifty (50) additional brand-new Lenovo laptop computers with bags in fulfilment of a pledge made when they made an initial donation of 50 laptop computers of same brand. The donation was made when they paid a visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson at the Council Chamber on 29th April, 2021.
A five-member team, led by the Managing Director of SIC, Mr. Stephen Oduro donated the laptops on behalf of the State Insurance Company.
Mr. Oduro in his speech stated that the donation forms part of the company’s way of supporting brilliant but needy students in KNUST through the ‘SONSOL Project’ as initiated by the Vice-Chancellor.
According to him, KNUST and SIC have enjoyed a longstanding relationship, and thus, SIC was pleased to extend a helping hand to support the project.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickon receiving the laptops thanked SIC for fulfilling its promise made when they donated the first batch of the 50 laptops in January 2021. She noted that the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the traditional mode of teaching and learning, hence, the laptops received would go a long way to help beneficiaries in their online and face-to-face teaching and learning; an approach the University has adopted.
Professor Dickson promised on behalf of the students that the laptops would be utilised for their intended purpose and keep them in good shape. She, however, solicited more help from philanthropists and other organisations.
Support One Needy Student with One Laptop (SONSOL Project), is an initiative by the Vice-Chancellor to provide laptops to brilliant but needy students in KNUST.
Present at the short presentation ceremony were Nana Yaw Mantey, Head of Corporate Affairs; Mrs. Adwoa K. Asenso-Gyambibi, Kumasi Area Manager; Mrs. Adwoa Birago, SIC KNUST Branch Manager and Daniel Alorwu, Head of Information Systems Department SIC.
