As a way of contributing its quota to building a strong human resource capacity especially in the oil and gas industry in Ghana, Tullow Ghana in collaboration with the University of Houston-USA, and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) of the Publication and Pipeline Committee has donated an assortment of books to the College of Engineering (CoE) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. The books are mostly in the areas of Geophysics and Geology and other related areas of Petroleum Engineering.
At a handing over ceremony, Nana Appia Kyei, Subsurface Manager at Tullow Ghana said his company is committed to partnering institutions such as KNUST to train individuals for jobs in the oil and gas industry. Nana Kyei further disclosed that there are plans underway to ensure long term engagement between Tullow Ghana and KNUST.
In response, Professor Willam Otoo Ellis, the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST said a more closely working relationship would be of mutual benefit to both institutions. He expressed his gratitude to Tullow for spearheading the donation and wished for more initiatives and programmes.
Professor Ellis also recounted the numerous sponsorships from Tullow Ghana, chiefly among which is a sponsored trip to the UK to learn about ways of improving upon the programme, course content and their administration, to produce the best human resource for the development of the nation.
Receiving the books, Professor S. I. K. Ampadu, Provost of College of Engineering said the College is focused on developing programmes aimed at National Development and thus the establishment of Integrated Centres of Excellence, one of which is Petroleum Engineering. Professor Ampadu noted that the College and KNUST as a whole can attain excellence if the needed resources such as books for studies and research are available. He was therefore, grateful to the donors and promised to ensure that the books are utilised for the purposes for which they were donated.
