The Moderator of General Assembly of Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, together with the leadership of the Ashanti Presbytery, has paid a courtesy call on Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Tuesday 22nd February 2022.
Rt. Rev. Professor Mante explained that the purpose of his visit is part of his 10-day working tour to the Ashanti Presbytery as the Moderator of PCG. Therefore, he and his Council seized the opportunity to visit the Management of KNUST. He congratulated Professor (Mrs.) Dickson for being the first-ever female Vice-chancellor of KNUST. “It is a great encouragement to all of us and to women. We really want to congratulate you. You do deserve it. And we are grateful to God for that,” he said.
He also commended KNUST for being one of the public universities in Ghana that puts significance on the role of chaplaincy in its administration by having a Chaplain who is recognised by the University and is placed at a certain level of management within the University system. “I believe that apart from all the academic research that has to be done, the role of a chaplain and the church is very crucial for the development of KNUST,” he added. He promised his support towards the construction of the Christian Centre project on Campus. The Centre, he emphasised, will serve all Christian groups on Campus greatly.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed her gratitude to Rt. Rev. Professor Mante for the visit. She assured him of Management’s commitment to build the University on good moral principles.
“One of the things that keep us awake at night is this commitment on our part to ensure a good future for our students and that we are able to also give back to society. Therefore, we will continue to be very dedicated in doing our best with all the various religious groups on campus and the leadership at the chaplaincy to ensure that the spiritual-moral upbringing of our students is at its best,” she assured.
She further solicited the prayers and support of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and hoped there would be more of such visits from his outfit.
