Prof. Benjamin Emikpe, Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has been elected a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (FAAS).
The announcement follows a highly competitive and rigorous selection process by the AAS Governing Council for the 2025 Fellowship cohort.
According to the Secretary-General of the AAS Governing Council, Prof. Friday E. Okonofua, Prof. Emikpe’s election was based on a series of meticulous evaluations, including reviews by Membership Advisory Committees across specialised scientific fields and final endorsement by the Governing Council.
The Fellowship is regarded as one of the highest honours on the continent for scientists who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to research, innovation and leadership. With the conferment, Prof. Emikpe is now entitled to use the post-nominal title FAAS.
The official announcement of the new Fellows will be made during the Science Forum South Africa (SFSA) on 24 November 2025 in Pretoria, providing global visibility to Prof. Emikpe’s achievement and reinforcing KNUST’s growing impact on scientific advancement in Africa.
The African Academy of Sciences also expressed interest in engaging Prof. Emikpe in upcoming activities, including working groups, advisory roles and strategic initiatives aimed at advancing the continent’s scientific agenda.
This responsibility aligns with Prof. Emikpe's continental leadership profile as Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Afrique One Consortium.
