A student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), Amos Sampuo Awuro, has been selected as a Millennium Fellow for the Class of 2026, joining a global network of young leaders committed to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through campus and community-driven initiatives.
The Millennium Fellowship, presented by the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) and the Millennium Campus Network (MCN), is one of the world's leading leadership development programmes for undergraduate students who are driving social impact.
According to the official admission letter, the 2026 Fellowship attracted more than 76,000 applications from students representing over 6,000 campuses across more than 170 countries. Following a highly competitive selection process, only 330 campuses across 60 countries, approximately five per cent of applicants, were selected to host more than 5,500 Millennium Fellows.
Amos, who is part of KNUST Cohort C, earned his place after impressing the Fellowship's Admissions Committee with his vision for community impact and leadership potential.
In the congratulatory message, the organisers noted that his selection reflects confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to his cohort, the Fellowship and the wider global community while strengthening his leadership skills and Fellowship project.
"Congratulations! We are thrilled to share that you have been selected as a Millennium Fellow for the Class of 2026. The Admissions Committee was impressed by your application. This is a testament to your vision and leadership," the admission letter stated.
The Millennium Fellowship is a semester-long leadership programme that equips students with mentorship, training and a global support network to design and implement projects that address pressing social and developmental challenges aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The recognition highlights KNUST's continued reputation for nurturing socially conscious student leaders who are leveraging innovation, service and entrepreneurship to create lasting impact within their communities and beyond.
As a Millennium Fellow, Amos will collaborate with fellow changemakers from around the world to develop practical solutions to societal challenges while strengthening his leadership capacity and expanding KNUST's contribution to global sustainable development efforts.
