The KNUST Women’s Group has demonstrated its commitment to community service and social responsibility through a cash donation Of GHS 5,000 to the Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), bringing relief to mothers and newborns facing financial challenges.
The group, established in 2024, comprises female staff in academia and administration, with a mission to make a positive impact and give back to society.
The donation supported a number of mothers and their babies who, despite being clinically discharged, had remained at the facility due to their inability to settle outstanding medical bills. The intervention enabled the beneficiaries to leave the hospital and return home to their families.
The initiative forms part of the KNUST Women’s Group’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable groups and contribute to the welfare of women and children within the broader community.

Receiving the donation, officials of the Mother and Baby Unit expressed heartfelt appreciation to the KNUST Women’s Group for the timely gesture. They noted that the support had eased the burden on affected families and underscored the importance of partnerships and acts of kindness in improving healthcare outcomes.
Mrs. Mercy Vanessa Darkwaa Appiah-Castel, Deputy Registrar at the College of Science, commended its members for their generosity and willingness to support a worthy cause. The group reiterated its commitment to undertaking initiatives that positively impact lives and promote hope among vulnerable populations.
The donation reflects KNUST’s enduring culture of compassion, volunteerism and service to society, reinforcing the University's role as a socially responsible institution dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of people beyond its campus.
Members present at the donation included Dr. Elizabeth Archampongma Archampong, a member of the group and a Lecturer at the Department of Public Law, Mrs. Josephine Adams, a Part time Lecturer at the Human Resource and Organizational Development.
