The team from the Faculty of Law of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has defeated the University of Ghana School of Law Team to win the final round of the 2022 Baffour Osei Akoto Memorial Moot Court Competition held at GIMPA on 25th February 2022.
The team, led by Dr. Ernest Owusu-Dapaa, Dean of the Law Faculty, presented the trophy to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson at the Council Chamber on 28th February 2022.
Dr. Owusu-Dapaa briefed the Vice-Chancellor on the purpose of their visit and what the Baffour Osei Akoto Memorial Moot Court Competition was about.
“Moot Teams compete in a simulated court proceeding in which law students acting as lawyers argue hypothetical cases before a panel of judges who may be actual judges or lawyers after which a winner is chosen. The KNUST Team from the Faculty of Law participated, qualified to the final round and won against the Team from the University of Ghana,” he explained.
Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson expressed her excitement at the team's outstanding achievement and lauded the Dean, lecturers, and administrative staff of the Faculty for their efforts to ensure the success of students and the institution as a whole. She commended the KNUST Moot Court Team for proudly representing the University and encouraged them to keep working hard to make KNUST proud.
Present at the short ceremony were Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ellis Owusu-Dabo; Professor Charles Ofosu Marfo, Provost of College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the participants: Martin Waana-ang, Anita Enyonam Dei, Nana Nti Ofori-Debrah, Afia Owusua Banahene, Phewby Benchog Vugu, Kenneth Achel, Samuel Sam, Audrey Issaka and Mathew Charles Yabe.
The Team Coach, Mr. Ezekiel Osei was also present.
