Bernice Asabea Kissi Boateng, an alumna of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has been appointed Group Head of Personal and Business Banking at Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), as the institution moves to strengthen its growth and transformation agenda.
Her appointment forms part of UMB’s strategy to attract top-tier talent and reposition itself as a more customer-focused and relationship-driven bank within Ghana’s competitive financial services sector.
In her new role, Ms. Kissi Boateng will oversee the bank’s Commercial, SME, Consumer and Prominence Banking segments, areas identified as critical to business growth. She is expected to drive market expansion, deepen customer engagement and deliver tailored financial solutions across diverse client groups.
With more than 20 years of experience in corporate, commercial and investment banking, she brings a track record in strategic leadership, balance sheet growth and the structuring of complex financial transactions.
Prior to joining UMB, she served at Access Bank Ghana as Sector Head for Corporate Banking and Head of Financial Institutions within the investment banking division, where she contributed to business expansion and transaction origination.
Her earlier career includes roles at GCB Bank, Bank of Baroda Ghana and Intercontinental Bank Ghana, where she built expertise in operations, treasury and customer service.
Ms. Kissi Boateng is a product of St. Rose’s Senior High School, Akwatia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences and a Commonwealth Executive MBA from KNUST, along with extensive professional training in credit, strategy and financial management.
Managing Director of UMB, Philip Oti-Mensah, said the appointment reflects the bank’s deliberate effort to build a high-performing leadership team capable of delivering growth and innovation.
He noted that she brings the leadership depth and commercial insight required to scale the bank’s Personal and Business Banking operations and enhance customer experience.
Her appointment comes at a time when UMB is undertaking broader leadership restructuring to improve service delivery, expand market share and strengthen its position as a leading destination for banking talent in Ghana.
