The newly inaugurated Governing Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi has held its first retreat, focusing on the role of governance in steering the University’s long-term development.
The retreat, which took place in Elmina, also served as an orientation for new members and a strategic engagement session for the Council.

The orientation was facilitated by Dr. Paul Effah, a distinguished higher education governance expert and former Registrar of the University for Development Studies (UDS).
Dr. Effah, also a former Executive Secretary of National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) now Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), led in-depth discussions on the responsibilities of University Councils, the importance of visionary leadership, and the need for clear boundaries between governance and management.
During his presentation, Dr. Effah stressed that good governance is not limited to compliance with rules and regulations but is rooted in a clear vision, ethical conduct, and strategic thinking.
He encouraged Council members to see their roles not only as custodians of policy but also as champions of innovation and institutional integrity.
