The Commonwealth Scholars Fellows and Alumni Association of Ghana (CoSFAG), on Friday, 30th October, 2020 organised a workshop for all National Service Personnel (NSP) in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The workshop themed; “Preparing for Life after Service” sought to enlighten the NSP on Commonwealth Scholarship Applications and other opportunities available during and after National Service.
The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship (CSFP) is an international programme under which member governments offer scholarships and fellowships to citizens of other Commonwealth countries. The CSFP was established at the first Commonwealth Education Conference in 1959, and over 27,000 individuals have benefited.
The Vice-President of CoSFAG KNUST Chapter, Dr. (Mrs) Mercy Badu, presenting on “Commonwealth Scholarship: overview of different scholarships available for postgraduate studies”, mentioned that NSP can seek for scholarship opportunities at the International Programmes Office, Office of Grants and Research, and Departmental General Offices.
She advised participants to attend and follow-up on educational fairs that are organised periodically, visit the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat and prospective University websites to apply for scholarships and surf the internet for vital information regarding scholarships.
Dr. Albert Arhin, General Secretary of CoSFAG, in his presentation took participants through the processes involved in filling the scholarship application forms: the type of scholarship to apply for, eligibility, and mode of application and submission process. He mentioned that the purpose of the scholarship is to give students the platform to explore other learning opportunities available to them. He also charged participants to build a good relationship with potential referees during and after their service.
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) representative, Dr. Joshua Arthur educated the NSP on time management, self-organisation, and software available in managing files and effective planning.
The workshop was also attended by: The National President, Dr. John Boulard Forkuor; President KNUST Chapter, Dr. Antoinette S. Anim-Jnr; Secretary KNUST Chapter, Dr. Ellen Konadu Antwi, and Ms. Felicia Amankwah.
