The Department of Sociology and Social Work has officially launched a new cooperation with the Social Work Department of Hoshschule Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (H_Da), Germany, dubbed ‘Educational Partnership in socio-pedagogical methods in social work towards improving the lives of Ghanaian children’.
The Head of Department of Sociology and Social Work, Dr. Peter Dwumah in his welcome address revealed that the collaboration was a team effort between the management of KNUST and H_Da. He therefore hoped that the collaboration would go a long way to help both institutions.
Prof. Dr. Katrin Luise Laezer, giving an overview of the new cooperation mentioned that the cooperation will take the form of exchange of programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students, joint research projects, conferences and workshop; mutual assistance in the establishment of new programmes and access to facility and analytical facilities.
According to Prof. Dr. Katrin Luise Laezer, the basic idea of the cooperation is to exchange knowledge and share ideas. H_Da expects to learn about Developmental Social Work and KNUST, about socio-pedagogical methods. In future, KNUST and H_Da will run joint topics on improving lives of children, families and communities; prevention of violence, flight and migration and dealing with trauma.
The €133,824.17 Application Oriented Project is funded by DAAD with Dr. Esmeranda Manful and Prof. Dr. Katrin Luise Laezer as Principal Investigators of KNUST and H_DA respectively.
Prof. Kofi Osei Akuoko, Acting Director of CeCAST launched the project. Also present at the launching, were collaborators from H_Da, Prof. Dr. Angelika Groterath, Prof. Dr. Lisa Niederreiter, Prof. Dr. Dörte Naumann, representative of the International Programmes Office (KNUST), faculty members, teaching assistants and students of the Department of Sociology and Social Work.
