The Association of Students of English, KNUST (ASEK) has celebrated its third anniversary since its launch in 2009. The event was on the theme: Redefining the Standard of English in Ghana, the Role of the Student of English.
Speaking at the launch, Nyame-Bekyere Francis, President of ASEK, appealed to all stakeholders in education to provide the needed support and facilities for teaching, learning and research of the English language because it is the mother of all subjects.
He said as part of the anniversary celebrations, the Association embarked on an outreach programme at selected senior high schools in deprived communities near the University. They observed that most of these schools lacked library and textbooks. He therefore called on all stakeholders to equip senior high schools with the needed facilities to enhance teaching and learning of the English language.
Dr. Mrs. Fredericka Dadson, Head of the English Department, commended the executives of the Association for their dedication to the growth of the association. She also praised the British Council for supporting this year’s anniversary celebration.
Some activities that were carried out for ASEK’s third anniversary celebrations were Inter-University Debate, Inter-Class Games, Dinner, Thanksgiving Service and a Drama Performance.
