The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi is steadily making progress in the teaching of modern languages. This is to train students to meet fast growing needs of multilingual professionals in today's competitive business world.
The progress was highlighted by the Vice-Chancellor during the morning session of the Tuesday 22nd June 2010 of the 44th Congregation Ceremony for the College of Art and Social Sciences (English, Modern Languages, Religious Studies, History and Political Studies).
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. K. K. Adarkwa in his speech briefed the house on the meaningful research work embarked on by the French Section of the Department of Modern Languages. He added that the department has organized an introductory course for beginners in the Chinese Language at KNUST. He said the patronage of this basic Chinese proficiency course was very good and a total of 200 students and staff registered for it even at a short notice. Prof. Adarkwa added that Akan is also gradually making an impact as it is offered as a service course at the School of Medical Science.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Adarkwa congratulated the graduands and advised them to stay in the country to pay back their dues to their motherland urging them that they can make it in this country. He also advised them to take advantage of any opportunity that comes their way and make excellent use of them.
The University presented 331 students during that session.
