A three-day workshop has been held for Deans, College Registrars, newly appointed Provosts and other Administrative Officers of the University. The objective of the workshop was to enlighten senior members on financial strategies, resources management, procurement law and internal audit law geared towards the objective of KNUST as a World Class University.
The acting Internal Auditor, Mr. Daniel Bart-Plange, emphasized the need for the participants to be abreast with financial regulations, contemporary auditing, the procurement act and risk management in order to be effective and efficient in their respective offices.
Giving a presentation on "Management of Financial Resources", the Finance Officer, Mr. Kingsley Adu, advised the Provosts, Deans, Registrars and other officers to demonstrate much dedication to the Institution and disdain personal interest which could be detrimental to the University. He observed that improper budgeting could jeopardize the financial status of the University, and reiterated the need for them to handle budgeting tactfully.
Among other issues deliberated were: leadership succession planning; improved conditions of service; strengthening links with industry; teaching effectiveness; communication management; research and science and technology. The rest are stress management, performance appraisal method and team management.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. William O. Ellis, urged senior members to be transparent and efficient in the discharge of their respective duties. He recommended that performance appraisal should be implemented on annual basis for effective evaluation. "Much is needed to effectively man the activities of colleges, faculties and departments of the University", he noted.
Prof. Ellis lauded the participants for their contribution and assured that a report would be forwarded to senior members for review, after which similar workshops would be organized based on the previous outcomes.
