The 6th Session of the KNUST 45th Congregation has been held for graduands of the Faculty of Law in the College of Art and Social Sciences, and some Departments in the College of Engineering. The joint graduation ceremony was organised in the morning for the Faculty of Law, and some Engineering Departments including Chemical, Materials, Civil, Geomatic, and Geological.
In all, 573 graduands were awarded Bachelor degrees. Of the total graduands, 28 got First Class, 277 had Second Class (Upper Division), 221 Second Class (Lower Division), and the remaining 47 graduated with Pass.
In a statement, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor William Otoo Ellis, expressed satisfaction about the increasing number of student enrollment in the College of Art and Social Sciences, and described it as a "College with great potential". He, therefore, congratulated the College on its input in academic research, career seminars for staff and students as part of effort to enhance capacity building.
Professor Ellis revealed that the Faculty of Law would soon establish a Law Clinic with support from Canadian Lawyers abroad, and the University of Ottawa. He commended two Senior Members of the Faculty; Professor Steven Addai, and Ebenezer Adjei Bediako, for earning Commonwealth Scholarship for further studies in the United Kingdom. He praised the Faculty for providing quality tuition to students who over the years have been excelling at the Ghana School of Law.
The Vice-Chancellor was full of praise for the College of Engineering for its magnificent contribution towards the country, particularly in the area of infrastructural development, among others. To build upon its past achievement, the College would introduce Master of Science programme in Engineering Management.
He advised the graduands to make real progress out of the skills and knowledge they have acquired from KNUST for the benefit of the nation and society as a whole.
On her part, Miss Elizabeth T. Hassan an alumnus of KNUST and a legal practitioner, in her motivational speech, challenged the graduands to remain determined in their quest to attain outstanding achievement in their respective professions. She assured them of hope for the future, and reiterated the significance of formal education as a tool for success.
She further urged the graduands to be diligent and committed to their chosen professions.
