The Registrar's Offices Seminar Committee has organised a seminar for senior administrative and professional staff on the theme: "Administrative Law: An imperative tool for the University Administrator".
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Registrar's Offices Seminar Committee, Mr. Solomon Panford, underscored the Registrar's intention to support such continued professional development activities to enhance and upgrade the capacity of senior administrative and professional staff members of the University.
The speaker at the seminar was the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law, Mr. Oswald K. Seneadza. Among others, he touched on administrative law and the regulatory framework, sources of administrative power, the four pillars of administrative law, agencies of administrative law, the use of administrative power, disciplinary powers, and Judicial Review.
Mr. Seneadza defined "Administrative Law" as a law which regulates the exercise of legitimate power conferred upon public bodies and their officials. He recommended that Senior Members should be guided by "fairness" and "reasonableness" in their decision-making during the discharge of their official duties. "Ignorance of the law is not an excuse", he noted.
After the lecture, there was an open forum where participants asked questions, made contributions, and shared ideas on the topic that had been delivered.
In a related development, some retired Senior Members of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) received trophies for their commitment, contribution and long service to the Association and the University Community at large.
Mr. Seneadza assisted in the presentation of the prizes to the immediate past members of GAUA. Among the recipients were Mrs. Uget Addae, Mr. Obrempong Owusu-Ansah, Mr. Kweku Sampeney, Major (Rtd) P.K. Ahialey, and Mr. Francis Onuman.
