Professor Jacob K. Agbenorhevi of the Department of Food Science and Technology, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, has participated in a high-level Master’s Design Workshop and UNAI SDG2 Hub Planning Session hosted by EARTH University in Costa Rica.
Prof. Agbenorhevi attended the workshop as KNUST’s representative and as part of the UNAI SDG2 Hub leadership, where KNUST serves as Vice-Chair for Teaching and Education.
His participation underscored KNUST’s growing international role in shaping transformative food systems education and strengthening Africa’s contribution to global academic collaborations focused on food security and sustainable agriculture.
Hosted at EARTH University’s campus, the workshop focused on the co-creation of a new Master’s (MX) in Food Systems Leadership, designed to be globally relevant, locally rooted, and deeply experiential.
The four-day event, brought together leading global universities and partners committed to advancing Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) through higher education, research, and innovation.
Activities included immersive field learning along the cacao value chain, design sessions on curriculum structure and graduate competencies, and collaborative planning for a joint “Introduction to Food Systems” course to be delivered across partner universities.
A central feature of the gathering was the UNAI SDG2 Hub Working Session, during which members reviewed progress, refined strategic priorities, and aligned next steps with the Hub’s 2026 workplan.
The Hub, co-chaired by EARTH University and the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), brings together universities worldwide to mobilize education, research, and outreach in support of ending hunger and building resilient food systems.
Participating universities and UNAI SDG2 Hub members included EARTH University (Costa Rica), University of California, Davis (USA), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (Ghana), McGill University (Canada), Newcastle University (United Kingdom), University of São Paulo (Brazil), and ARUA–SFS at the University of Pretoria (South Africa), alongside EARTH University faculty, alumni, and international experts.
The workshop concluded with a shared commitment to deepen inter-university collaboration, pilot innovative teaching and learning models, and translate academic knowledge into real-world impact.
Prof. Agbenorhevi’s participation further reinforces KNUST’s leadership role within the UNAI SDG2 Hub and its dedication to advancing global efforts toward sustainable food systems and a hunger-free future.
