The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Basic School has emerged the winner of the fourth edition of the Junior Science and Mathematics Quiz (JSMQ). The presentation of awards to the contestants was held at the forecourt of the School on 6th December 2023.
The Grand Finale of the Competition which was held at the Great Hall of KNUST featured three schools of which KNUST Junior High School (JHS) emerged winners by beating Manna International School and Barbara International School.

Mr. Eric Oti-Attah, the Deputy Head of the KNUST Basic Schools, highlighted the Basic Schools’ performances at the JSMQ. He stated that in 2019, which was the first edition of the Competition, KNUST Basic Schools emerged as winners and after the trophy had eluded them in 2021 and 2022, they decided to put a strong team together for this year’s competition with the mentality of winning it. He emphasised their determination to secure the first position in the coming editions.

Mrs. Theresa Anyimadu, Chief Teacher at the KNUST JHS, expressed gratitude to both teachers and parents for their immense support. She also appreciated the contestants for their commitment and high performance during the competition. She urged the student body gathered to do what they love most with vigour and aim at yielding positive results. She again, appreciated the support of the dedicated trainers; Mr. Joseph Bandoh, Mr. Richard Obeng, Mr. Oteng Yeboah, Mr. Lambert Nakpi, Mr. Sampson Agyei Donkor, Mr. Kwaku Amoani and Mr. Stephen Forson for their commitment and thanked them for contributing such achievement.

The Former Head of the KNUST Basic Schools, Mrs. Theodosia Jackson, shared words of encouragement with the contestants and pledged the support of Jackson Educational Complex to the contestants for IT training. She also presented a token to the Head of the KNUST Basic Schools, Rev. (Mrs.) Irene Owusua Nkansah in support of the contestants and teachers.
With a total of 45 points, KNUST Basic School emerged winners over Barbara International School and Manna International School. The KNUST Basic Schools team comprised; Jason Antwi Agyei, team leader, Kwadwo Asamoah, Caleb Kumankuma and the only female, Nana Ama Serwaa.
The team was awarded the winners’ trophy, certificates, a laptop for each contestant and trainer and an amount of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHȻ5,000).
Jason Antwi Agyei was awarded the overall best contestant.
