The Databank Universal Economic School (DUES), aimed at organizing programmes to educate and train the youth on investment and economic issues has called on the Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.K. Adarkwa. The club is found in five tertiary institutions and is yet to be established in all the tertiary institutions in Ghana.
Established in April 2006, DUES club is programmed to introduce students to the Economy and financial markets of Ghana and Africa.The purpose of the DUES Clubs is to provide opportunity for students to learn about investment and to acquire the experience of working together with corporate organizations dedicated to excellence and leadership.
In an interaction, Mr. George Boakye the president of the KNUST branch of the club said the objective of the DUES Clubs is to provide a platform for tertiary students to engage with the business world. Students could therefore solicit ideas and be motivated through such platforms to enable them get involved in the economic development of the country.
He said DUES Club Programmes also consist of areas like Financial Literacy, leadership development, mentorship and coaching, nation building among others. Currently, 44 Clubs have been set up in the 10 regions of Ghana, and we have intentions of establishing our presence in all the tertiary institutions in Ghana by the year 2012, he added.
Mr. Boakye announced that DUES "Young Professionals group" was also launched recently with an initial membership of about 400 graduates and young workers.The aim of the group is to identify young professionals who are either employed or self-employed and equip them with skills not only in the form of expertise and technical depth, but the ability to ''see the bigger picture" as far as the corporate world is concerned. It also ensures that its members view development as being holistic and expand their ability to work in a multi-sectoral manner.
He said they offer its members, knowledge in investment, professional orientation and training opportunities, and business development and support. He thanked Prof. Adarkwa for his support, contribution and generosity towards the group.The goals of the Young Professional Group are to recognize and develop great leadership and personal integrity, encourage and practice teamwork among members, emphasize individual responsibility in the choice to invest and succeed, among others.
Prof. Adarkwa advised them to take their academic work seriously in addition to the club duties assigned to each one of them saying that is the reason why they are in the University. He therefore charged them to work hard as club executives to attain their target as a group.
