The Provost of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CoHSS) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Charles Marfo, has announced the establishment of a new annual award for the Best Graduating Student from the Faculty of Law.
Speaking at the 59th Congregation, Prof. Marfo said the Faculty has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mr. Alexander Amoah, Esq., of O & A Legal Consult, to sponsor the award, which includes a brand-new laptop and a cash prize of USD 1,000.
The Provost used the platform to highlight recent achievements of the College, noting that academic staff of CoHSS have collectively produced 313 publications this year, describing research as “the heartbeat of the university.”
Updating the congregation on graduation statistics, he announced that the College is presenting 3,285 undergraduate students this year: 1,575 males (48%) and 1,710 females (52%).
A total of 679 students (20.7%) earned First Class Honours, while 1,436 (43.7%) graduated with Second Class Honours Upper Division. Another 1,072 students (32.6%) obtained Second Class Honours Lower Division, with 98 graduands (3%) completing with a Pass.
Prof. Marfo urged graduates to pursue their careers with excellence and purpose, stressing that the KNUST training equips them to be socially functional and globally competitive.
“As staff of KNUST, we have done all within our limited resources to provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to broaden your horizon. It is now up to you to make maximum use of these competencies for the betterment of society,” he said.
Quoting former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, he reminded graduates that “there are no secrets to success; it is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure."
