The Institute of Distance Learning of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has organised its matriculation ceremony for this year’s fresh students. The event which took place at the National Theatre was to matriculate students of the southern sector comprising students from Accra, Koforidua, Takoradi, Tarkwa, Cape Coast and Ho.
The ceremony marked the acceptance and entry of fresh students into the University as junior members in statu pupillari. It offered them the opportunity to be officially recognised as bona fide students of KNUST and thus entitled to all the privileges accorded students of this great institution as well as being bound by all the responsibilities of their new status as proud students of KNUST.
Professor Robert Kwame Nkum, Provost of the College of Science, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor welcomed all the students and acknowledged the fact that most of them were workers and had family responsibilities. The University would therefore continue to explore opportunities and systems to make their studies very smooth and quite fulfilling.
He was happy to announce that the IDL was currently operating in all the ten regional capitals in the country in addition to other centres like Obuasi, Akosombo and Techiman. Plans were also under way to start the construction of the Accra-City Campus. In addition to the above initiatives, the University through the IDL was working to acquire a facility for the establishment of a number of computer laboratories and multimedia lecture rooms with video conferencing facilities both on the main campus and at the various IDL centres in the country.
